Senior Connection

Northern Montana Health Care's Senior Connection mission statement is to promote the physical, social and emotional health and wellness of the Hi-Line's senior population.  Through the coordination of activities that interest and stimulate our area seniors, we will endeavor to create new and promote existing services in an environment where seniors can gather for fun, growth and companionship.

Recognizing the increasing age of the population within our demographic area, NMHC developed a health promotion outreach program geared specifically for the senior age group.  Services are offered in surrounding communities within a 100 mile radius of our multi-level health care facility.

Because there is much more to health and wellness than just the physical component; in addition to the health screenings and services provided, the activities promote independence by increasing knowledge of the aging process, continued mental stimulation, increasing physical activity and endurance, emotional and social support systems, and the opportunity to participate in short bus tours and day trips.

Examples include:

  • FREE or discounted health screenings and services including blood pressure checks, HDL/cholesterol and glucose testing, stress profiles, hearing screenings and prostrate cancer screenings.

  • Assistance with understanding Medicare benefits and appealing their determinations, filing supplemental insurance benefits, scheduling appointments for health care services and free notary services.

  • A monthly newsletter with pertinent information on senior health issues, a calendar of events offered through the Senior Connection program as well as the senior centers throughout the region, mind stimulating puzzles and encouraging poems and thoughts.

  • Foot care clinics at 12 sites in surrounding communities.

  • Presentations on varied topics of interest such as furs trapped in the State of Montana, hot air ballooning, estate planning, creating a will specifically tailored to the individual's needs, and even learning the latest dance craze--the macarena!

  • Bi-monthly pinochle parties, teas and luncheons to promote socializing and interaction between senior communities.

  • Bus tours to Glacier Park, the Bears Paw Mountains, Helena, the Black Hills, Medora, our State Capitol in Helena, a hutterite colony, and local ostrich and emu farms, as well as summer picnics and campouts, and much, much more!

Our activities are as varied as the interests of the seniors we serve.   New participants are always welcome.  We are here to support the seniors of our communities.
