NORTHERN MONTANA HOSPITAL DONATES TRAINING EQUIPMENT TO

HAVRE FIRE/AMBULANCE DEPARTMENT

Training for EMS (Emergency Medical Services) workers in Havre and along the Hi-Line just got more advanced with the donation of a piece of equipment by Northern Montana Hospital to the Havre Fire/Ambulance Department.

Dr. Joe Marino and NMH’s ER/CCU Manager Riki Handstede presented Fire Chief Dave Sheppard with an Advanced Airway Management Training manikin today. The manikin, consisting of a head and torso, will allow the EMT’s and firefighters to practice intubation, to manage a patient’s airway to maintain breathing.

According to Dr. Marino, “It’s important to pre-hospital care that our EMS folks are able to intubate and manage airways, especially when they have to transport a patient for long distances. This piece of equipment will let these personnel practice intubation for advanced airway management situations.”

Noting that it is “good practice for new and experienced EMT’s to keep their skills up,” Dr. Marino said that the anesthetists affiliated with Northern Montana Hospital provide annual training to area EMT’s.”
