NORTHERN MONTANA HOSPITAL DONATES TRAINING EQUIPMENT TOHAVRE FIRE/AMBULANCE DEPARTMENT
Training for EMS (Emergency Medical Services) workers in Havre and along the Hi-Line just got more advanced with the donation of a piece of equipment by Northern Montana Hospital to the Havre Fire/Ambulance Department. Dr. Joe Marino and NMH¡¯s ER/CCU Manager Riki Handstede presented Fire Chief Dave Sheppard with an Advanced Airway Management Training manikin today. The manikin, consisting of a head and torso, will allow the EMT¡¯s and firefighters to practice intubation, to manage a patient¡¯s airway to maintain breathing. According to Dr. Marino, ¡°It¡¯s important to pre-hospital care that our EMS folks are able to intubate and manage airways, especially when they have to transport a patient for long distances. This piece of equipment will let these personnel practice intubation for advanced airway management situations.¡± Noting that it is ¡°good practice for new and experienced EMT¡¯s to keep their skills up,¡± Dr. Marino said that the anesthetists affiliated with Northern Montana Hospital provide annual training to area EMT¡¯s.¡±
