POSITION PURPOSE (Summary)
Organizes and conducts medically prescribed speech/language or swallowing evaluations and rehab programs to
guide individuals in improving their quality of life following injury, diseases or loss of a body part with consid-
eration to patient’s gender, age, cultural differences, and educational needs.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
(Education, License / Registration, Experience, Knowledge and Abilities)
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Graduate of a professional course of education of speech, hearing science, and language development culminating in a minimum of a master’s degree. Valid Montana state license or equivalent in Speech/Language Pathology services. Certification by the American Speech/Language/Hearing Association (CCC).Amiable personality, ability to make sound judgments and the ability to maintain an empathetic and understanding attitude towards patients.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Evaluates patient utilizing appropriate testing procedures to establish scope of dysfunction.
- Plan a restorative treatment program based on objective data gathered and as prescribed by physician.
- Records initial evaluation and progress reports per departmental policy.
- Cooperate and coordinate efforts with health care team to provide efficient and effective care for all patients.
- Conducts or participates in educating medical staff & health professionals in speech/language techniques and objectives.
- Adopts conventional techniques to meet the needs of patients with learning disabilities.
- Assists in the preparation of requisitions for supplies and equipment.
- Ensures that equipment and supplies are properly maintained and replaced as needed.
- Supervises subordinate personnel in carrying out treatment regimes.
- Reports all unusual occurrences to the Rehab Service Manager or designee immediately.
- Maintains an awareness of the variances between individuals due to gender, age, cultural needs, and educational background.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
