Registered Nurse -LDPR

 

POSITION PURPOSE (Summary)

 

The LDRP Registered Nurse is a self-motivated professional RN and resource person who assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care of the obstetrical patient, through the antepartum, intrapartumm and postpartum periods.  The LDRP RN also cares for the newborn utilizing the nursing process.  Participation in rotational call is required.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

(Education, License / Registration, Experience, Knowledge and Abilities)

 

  1. Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  2. Registered Nurse currently licensed to practice professional nursing in the State of Montana.
  3. One (1) year MedSurg experience preferred.
  4. Must maintain and provide documentation of professional development requirements including BLS.

 

OSHA CATEGORY CLASSIFICATION

 

Category classifications have been developed to assist employees in determining their risk for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens.  These categories are:

 

Category I        Employee will have occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens in the performance of their routine jobs.

Category II       Employee may have occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens in the performance of their routine jobs.

Category III     Employee will not have exposure to bloodborne pathogens in the performance of their routine job.

 

 

 

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Scope of practice includes performing direct patient care or directing care given by other to the obstetrical patient during labor, delivery and postpartum.  Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidentiality.  Must follow accepted safety practices for patient and hospital.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Recognizes and assesses newborn growth and development patterns and appropriately addresses and documents all significant findings.
  2. Modifies medication dosages as calculated by age and weight, and administers medication appropriately.
  3. Safely and accurately operates age appropriate OB/GYN equipment.
  4. Takes and records vital signs.
  5. Assesses patients for signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect.
  6. Provides education to patient / family / caregiver for home instructions and discharge needs.
  7. Assists with deliveries and immediate care of newborns, as well as provide appropriate resuscitation and care of the newborn.
  8. Communicates in a timely manner with physicians regarding patient’s status.
  9. Accurately and timely documents patient care reports as directed by policy.
  10. Accurately and timely completes verbal shift reports on patient’s status.
  11. Assists in providing direct patient care as needed to meet all patient needs.
  12. Provides medical treatments to patients as ordered by the physician.

 

INFREQUENT / MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

    • Shows ability to perform neonatal resuscitation within one year of employment.
    • Supervises and directs other personnel:  LPN, CNA, flex staff.
    • Answers the telephone and takes appropriate messages.
    • Participates in nursing, hospital committees or CQI teams.
    • Acts as a preceptor to newly hired staff.
