POSITION PURPOSE (Summary)
Under the supervision of the charge nurse and Team Manager, the CNA administers nursing care to residents in accordance with a specific care plan devised for each individual resident according to Nurse Aide Guidelines. The CNA supports the mission and nursing philosophy of Northern Montana Care Center.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
(Education, License / Registration, Experience, Knowledge and Abilities)
- Certified Geriatric Aide by the State of Montana, current Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Ability to interpret and apply verbal and written instructions.
- Provide a current phone number.
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
OSHA CATEGORY CLASSIFICATION
Category classifications have been developed to assist employees in determining their risk for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. These categories are:
Category I Employee will have occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens in the performance of their routine jobs.
Category II Employee may have occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens in the performance of their routine jobs.
Category III Employee will not have exposure to bloodborne pathogens in the performance of their routine job.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provides emotional support for patients and families.
- Helps assess residents’ needs, especially in areas of skin care, bowel and bladder control and the ability to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADL).
- Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure in both arms).
- Takes and records height and weight.
- Measures resident’s fluid and food intake and output.
- Collects sputum, feces and urine specimens according to hospital procedure.
- Assists resident with transfers, ambulation and other mobility, including wheelchairs, gurneys, etc., according to specific instructions in the care plan.
- Passes fresh water and changes water pitchers as necessary.
- Bathes resident with C-tub, recumbent tub, shower and bed bath.
- Assists with ADL’s (grooming, oral care, dressing, etc.).
- Distributes meal trays and snacks and assists with feeding each patient as necessary.
- Performs computer entry on hand held / terminal.
- Answers call lights.
- Makes up resident’s bed, occupied or unoccupied.
- Performs active and / or passive Range of Motion (ROM).
- Cleans resident care equipment, i.e., wheelchair, walker, commode, basin, etc.
- Passes linens as needed.
- Changes linen bags when two-thirds full.
- Accompanies resident to appointments.
- Performs other duties as required.
INFREQUENT / MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists with admitting and orienting resident and family to the room – instructs in operation of bed, call light, television control, etc.
- Assists with discharging resident and assists resident to care according to hospital procedure.
- Answers phones and takes appropriate messages.
